Make-up for Senior Pictures

"But I want to look Natural"

It is still possible to have a natural look while wearing make up.  In fact that is really the trend right now.  They idea is to lightly accent the features of the face when doing natural make up, it is not to give you the smoky eyes that fashion models use in Vogue.

Here is what most people don't know about the lights used to take pictures.  While they do a great job of controlling the dark areas they also start to washout some of the color.  So a touch of makeup can bring back some of the lip color.  Mascara adds a little contrast to the eyes and brings out there natural color.  And finally a little bit of blush will bring out the cheek bones for a very healthy look.

Here are some tips for a great "Natural Look".

  1. Start by taking care of your skin.  Get enough sleep for two days before your shoot and make sure to drink enough water.  Most of all use sunscreen... at least 30spf.  Nothing will ruin your skin tones like a burn.
  2. No heavy base or foundation.  Natural looks have texture to the skin and not so much a porcelain doll look.
  3. The right color blush will make all the difference.  Most make up stores have professionals that can help you with this.   No Bronzer, avoid blushes with extra shimmer, it will not look as natural and the camera lights may make it too much.
  4. Now we can take a look a the lips.  Sometimes a small amount of lip gloss is all you need.  This will add a slightly moist look and hide some cracks and flaking.  You may want a gloss with a color tint to add a little more snap to your look.
  5. Finally the eyes!!  Here we want to be careful.  Too much and it doesn't look natural.  Too little and you won't get that pop from the eyes.  What we want is a little contrast, not a lot of drama.  So you may want to try a dark brown mascara  instead of a black.  Again this depends on your skin tones and hair color.  Also go easy on the eye liner. Now to finish it all off maybe a light slash of color on the eye lids.  Maybe a cream instead of a powder.  Some times the powders can sit on the skin and look like you are wearing makeup.
  6. Now if all this seems like too much work don't worRy we have make up artist that knows how to make you up for your senior portraits with either a natural look or a more glamorous look.
